September 2011 eNewsletter

With summer officially ending on the Autumn Equinox of September 23rd., it seems to have gone by so fast.  I have already begun scheduling shows for the Holiday Season, beginning with the Reno Elks Crafts and Products Fair on November 12th.  There will be more detailed information in the October eNews.

During this month, I've enjoyed two photo trips out to Stillwater Wildlife Reserve, near Fallon, Nevada. The Stillwater Wetlands is a 77,500-acre refuge and a significant stopover for migratory birds along the Pacific Flyway.

Getting up one morning around 4:30 am and hoping to catch the stars over Walker Lake produced some interesting results as dawn's first light appeared over the Gillis Range.   The lighting has been phenomenal and I've tried to not miss any opportunity.

One of the most interesting events during this month was my discovery of a one-eyed great horned owl that has taken up residence in a tall elm tree in my backyard.  All day long the owl perches in the tree and then flies off at dusk for its nocturnal activities.  I think we both enjoy watching each other from a distance.   To read more please visit my blog.

More abstract photography images have been added to the collection when I discovered some interesting shapes that were reflecting on the surface of water. To view more of these photos, please go to Bonnie Rannald's PhotoGraphic Expressions Facebook Artist Page.

And speaking of Facebook, on my BusinessPage I will feature a photograph from my website where I will soon have a newly designed shopping cart.

On September 29th., a fluttering of wings at 7 pm and a flash light revealed a Sphinx moth in the clutches of a preying mantas.  Raising the ISO  to 1600 and firing the flash gave me a fast shutter speed to catch the action.

Tip of the Month!

When shooting landscapes, try to make sure the horizon is level and not slanting to one side.  Most times these problems can be corrected in Photoshop or Lightroom, however it is always wiser to try and hold the camera level.
